AboutMe

I left school in 1984 at the age of 16 and, like many of my peers, embarked on a career in the hosiery industry in my home town of Hawick.

Two mill closures later I decided to re-evaluate my options and took up full time employment in the Buccleuch Hotel where I undertook everything from meeting and greeting to washing pots on exceptionally busy Saturday nights.

This establishment too was destined to fall into the hands of the receivers and was taken over by Tamworth based company Mercury Leisure who's objective was to turn round the profits of hospitality outlets which had fallen on hard times and sell them on as a going concern.

I was made assistant manager before stepping up to manager and being given projects of my own in Ardrossan, Dumfries, London and Maidens.

Having satisfied my wander lust, and feeling a tad more than a hankering to return to the Borders, it was once again re-evaluation time.

After completing an HND in journalism at Borders college. I joined the Southern Reporter news team with whom I covered a multitude of local festivals, royal visits,  and sporting events while writing countless news items, human interest stories and advertising features.

My love of sport however led to a wide variety of coverage, involving the many successful local clubs and individuals, and eventually led to me becoming sports editor.

In March 2016 I decided it was time for a new chapter and took a leap of faith into the world of self-employment.

I hope you all like what I do.

I currently live in the hills above Earlston with my husband Malcolm and dog Tiggy.
